Chiang Mai serves as the central hub for excursions into northern Thailand, everything from bamboo rafting to elephant rides to hill tribe trekking is available. And the town itself isn’t lacking. With swarms of tourists pouring through every year and one of the largest American expat communities in the world, every form of ethnic cuisine, fast food chain, and regional Thai cuisine is easily and readily available (although missing out on a heavenly bowl khao soi would certainly be a crime, ranking up there with being caught at McDonalds).
