The central attraction of Wat Yai Chai Mongkol is the magnificent Phra Chedi Chai Mongkol.

King Naresuan the Great ordered the construction of this Chedi as a memorial for his victory over Crown Prince Minchit Sra Uparaja of Burma in 2135 B.E. It is the sign of Thai independence, it serves to remind the descendents about the bravery and the sacrifice of their ancestors, and it symbolizes the virtue of King Naresuan the Great in the sake of Buddhism’s merits.

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time …”
